Shetland Adult Learning Service
Shetland’s Adult Learning Service takes specific actions to pursue a ‘Wealthier and Fairer Shetland’:
- Employability programmes for target groups (unemployed, offenders, NEET)
- Workplace Core Skills Programmes to support individuals to retain work and progress
- Qualifications in Core Skills
- Individual support for interviews and applications
- Life skills workshops
- Individual Learning Plans
Most participants move on to work, volunteering or further learning. In 2009:
- 18 learners became employed as a result of taking part in Employability courses –an estimated saving to the tax payer of £144,000 per annum
- 30 adult learners progressed to accredited College learning
- 42 individuals gained Core Skills qualifications (2009/10)
20 people felt more confident making decisions about money.
