Community Learning and Development Managers Scotland

Resources for evidence, self-evaluation and quality improvement

There is a wide range of tools, resources and reports that CLD practitioners can use to inform, assist and improve their practice when they want to:

Here are links to a few that CLDMS has developed or endorsed.

One important resource is ‘The Steps to Self Evaluation’, a toolkit developed by CLD practitioners to support self evaluation, with a step-by-step guide, case studies and resources. It was originally produced by practitioners from Argyll and Bute, West Dunbartonshire and Stirling Councils. CLDMS is now working with them and others to keep this up to date as a resource for all its members, setting out our common understanding of self-evaluation.

Listed below you will find a simple checklist, prepared by Inverclyde Council  and recommended by the CLDMS Quality Improvement group for general use. It provides a step be step reminder of the requirements of the 2012 Strategic Guidance for Community Planning Partnerships: Community Learning and Development and the Requirements for CLD (Scotland) Regulations 2013.

Also listed  is the report of the ‘Statistics and Stories’ project. That looked at current practice in gathering and using evidence. Here too is the CPD programme that has been developed as a result of the project. This can be used to help people make the best use of both quantitative and qualitative evidence. Case studies provided by participants in the project will follow soon.

You might also like to look at the materials from our 2011 ‘Measuring the Impact of CLD’ Learning Event, the survey conducted by Blake Stevenson on ‘Evaluating the Impact of CLD on National and Local Outcomes’ and our publication ‘Let’s Prove It’,  Guidance and a Framework for providing evidence on the local and national outcomes of community learning and development activities.
